ZEN CAT

Meet Kosty, a feline cure for tension.

He’s an old tabby whose former glory days of catching anything at all are a happy memory. Mostly he relaxes. Even when birds swoop him, he just walks away and hides under the car.

When not relaxing Kosty can be found eating. When not eating he can be found doing some more of that relaxing thing. The idea behind this short video is really to create a sense of mood by getting into the intimate zone of a very chilled out cat who has no fear at all of people or cameras. If you’re in a foul mood just watch Kosty for a minute or two and if that fails to cure you, hey, just watch it again!

SUNRISE IN CHIANG MAI

Taken from my hotel room window in April 2013.

Chiang Mai is an incredibly beautiful city in the North of Thailand a long train ride from Bangkok, with a remarkable history, lovely people and  a lot of activities for the curious visitor Chiang Mai is a popular family destination and it is the epicentre of all New Year water festival celebrations (songkran).

You will find the locals extraordinarily friendly overall, the market food is amazing and the shopping is easy.

EVAPORATION

Gravity of the Sun can do work to evaporate water on the Earth! If we want to understand evaporation on Earth we need to look at sunlight and to look at sunlight means getting interested in the processes which make the Sun shine. To understand a phenomenon as everyday and commonplace as evaporation we must look to gravity!

The nuclear fusion which powers the Sun is so hot it should also blow the Sun apart. The only thing preventing that from happening is the gravity of the Sun sucking it inwards. The shape of the Sun is, then, a combination of gravity which sucks it all down to as small as it can go, and a nuclear fusion explosion which constantly blows it apart. The balance between implosion due to gravity and explosion due to high temperature fusion reactions creating sunlight is very stable indeed, that balance is stable over billions of years and it is this very long term stability between the simultaneous implosion and explosion of the Sun which enables all life on Earth to persist. And evaporation.

Evaporation happens like it does here on Earth partly because of the gravity of the Sun. Physics is beautiful in the way it connects and links up the phenomena of the world. From the small, atomic processes like evaporation and the fusion of nuclear particles, to the large scale processes like the gravity of stars and planets.
